Questions
What happens if I stop paying, or never pay?
Your library stays yours. The app keeps opening it in Free, so you can still browse, watch, export everything and keep your second copy. Only adding and organising files need a licence. The command-line tool opens every library too, for free.
Why not a small monthly price?
Klenod runs on your Mac and your own storage, so keeping it working costs us nothing each month. That's why it's a one-time purchase. If you'd rather pay as you go, there's the yearly plan. We don't bill monthly because card and processing fees would take about a fifth of each payment.
Do I need an account?
No. You get a licence file, and the app checks it on your Mac without contacting us.
Is there a trial?
Yes. You get 30 days with everything, and no card is needed. After that the app drops to Free instead of locking you out.
The code is open. Can I build it myself?
Yes. You can read all of the code and build it for your own use. The library format and the code that stores and restores a library, including the open-source build of the klenod command-line tool, are open source under MPL-2.0. The rest, the Mac app included, is under the Business Source License 1.1 from the company behind Klenod. Each version of it becomes open source under Apache 2.0 two years after its release. Until then you may not ship it, or a build of it, as a product that competes with Klenod, paid or free. Buying a licence pays for the signed Mac app, its updates and support, and keeps the project going.
What about tax?
VAT or sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.
