How to keep a private copy of a shared Yandex Disk folder

Open a public Yandex Disk link, preview photos and videos, and keep an encrypted copy that is checked against Yandex's own checksums.

Updated 12 October 2026

Public Yandex Disk links are a common way to share albums, course recordings and datasets. Klenod opens them through Yandex’s documented public API, without a Yandex account.

Steps

  1. Copy the link. Both https://disk.yandex.ru/d/… and short https://yadi.sk/d/… links work, as do links to a single file.
  2. In Klenod, open Cloud folders, paste it, and choose Open folder. A folder with hundreds of subfolders can take a while to list, and Klenod tells you if one is too large.
  3. Preview. Yandex’s own previews appear as thumbnails, and videos play directly.
  4. Select and keep with Back up selected.

Yandex publishes a SHA-256 checksum for every file, and Klenod checks each backup against it. If the folder changes while you’re backing up, Klenod notices and asks you to reopen it, so you don’t end up with a mismatched copy.

Good to know

  • Password-protected links aren’t supported yet.
  • Download limits apply to popular public links. If Yandex says the limit is reached, try again later.
  • Yandex sees the request. It learns your network address and which files you read.
